While you can't avoid writing essays, you can avoid making some of these common mistakes: Giving a synopsis instead of an analysis. The point of an essay is to create an argument and defend a thesis. If you're writing about a work of literature, some background to clarify the topic can be helpful.
Passive constructions can also make your piece of writing hard to understand. If you use such constructions as “it was” the reader will think about what exactly do you mean using the word “it.” It’s much better to use strong nouns and verbs which will make your writing work persuasive.
